Usually somewhat safer, but not safe by default. The MQL5 Market gives you a standard checkout, a built-in demo option, and a review system, and products are checked by moderators before listing. None of that tells you whether an indicator is any good or whether it will help you trade profitably.
What the MQL5 Market actually gives you
- Platform-handled purchase and delivery. You are not entering card details on an unfamiliar site or downloading files from a link.
- Moderation. Listings go through a check, which is aimed at technical problems and rule violations. It is not an endorsement of the strategy or its usefulness.
- Demo versions. Many products offer one, so you can test before paying. Availability varies by product, so check the listing.
- Reviews and comments. Useful, but they can be thin, early, or skewed. Read the critical ones first.
- Licensing tied to your account. Activation limits and refund handling follow the marketplace's rules, which you should read before buying.
Where a vendor's own website can be fine, or worse
Some vendors sell direct because they offer things the Market does not: longer trials, bundled tools, support, or Telegram and web dashboards. Many are legitimate. The risk is that you are relying on the vendor alone for the terms, the refund, and the file itself. Before paying, look for a clear refund policy, a named business, working support, and a way to test first. Be wary of screenshots of profits, countdown timers, and "guaranteed" claims. Those are red flags on any platform.

What matters more than where you buy
- Test it on a demo account across different market conditions.
- Check whether it repaints, meaning past signals change after the fact.
- Decide what job it does for you, such as trend, momentum, or alerts, and whether a free indicator already does it.
- Never risk money you cannot afford to lose. No indicator removes that risk. If you need personal financial advice, consult a licensed professional.
