A good vendor-versus-vendor comparison answers one question: which of these two tools fits the way you already trade, at a cost you can justify, with evidence you can check yourself? It does not name a universal winner. Below is the method we use to compare indicators, plus a worksheet you can fill in. We deliberately don't quote vendor prices or feature lists here, because they change. Confirm current details on each vendor's official site.
What a fair head-to-head actually compares
1. Features: what the tool does, not what the page says
Marketing pages list features. Your job is to separate the ones that change a trading decision from the ones that decorate a chart.
- Platform support: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView, or something else. An indicator that doesn't run on your platform is a non-starter.
- Signal logic: Is it trend, momentum, volatility, or a mix? Does the vendor explain how it's calculated, or is it a black box?
- Repainting behavior: Do past signals change after the bar closes? This is the most important thing to test (see below).
- Alerts and timeframes: Push, email, and pop-up alerts, and whether multi-timeframe readings are built in.
- Settings: Can you adjust inputs, or are you locked into the vendor's defaults?
2. Price: total cost, not sticker price
Compare the structure of the pricing: one-time license, subscription, or lifetime access. Then check for add-ons, extra-account limits, upgrade fees, and what happens if your platform version changes. Look for a written refund or trial policy, and read the conditions. Our individual indicator reviews cover trial and refund terms where we've been able to verify them, but always confirm on the official site before paying.
3. Performance: evidence you can test
Vendor-published results are marketing material unless you can reproduce them. Treat win rates, screenshots, and "pips gained" claims as unverified until you've tested them. Nothing here predicts future results, and an indicator is an input to a decision, not a profit engine.
A comparison worksheet you can copy
Fill in one column per vendor, using only what you can verify yourself or find on the official site.
| Criterion | Vendor A | Vendor B | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform / version supported | Compatibility is a hard requirement | ||
| Pricing model and total cost | Subscriptions add up over time | ||
| Trial or refund terms (written) | Lets you test with limited risk | ||
| Repaints on live chart? | Repainting makes backtests misleading | ||
| Alert options | Affects how much screen time you need | ||
| Adjustable settings | Fit to your pair and timeframe | ||
| Documentation and support | Matters when something breaks | ||
| Independent evidence of results | Vendor claims alone aren't proof |
How to run the comparison, step by step
- Define your use case first. Are you swing trading H4 trends or scalping M5? A tool built for one often disappoints at the other.
- Shortlist two or three tools. More than that and you'll stop testing properly. Our ranked list of paid indicators is a reasonable place to start, though rankings are editorial judgments, not guarantees.
- Put both on the same chart. Use a demo account, the same pair, the same timeframe, and the same period.
- Do a repaint check. Leave each indicator running live for several sessions. Screenshot signals as they appear, then compare them with the chart afterward. If signals moved or vanished, that tells you more than any sales page.
- Log signals manually. Record entry, stop, and outcome using your own rules, including spread and slippage. A small sample proves little, so be honest about how much it can tell you.
- Test against a free baseline. Run a standard moving average or RSI setup beside the paid tool. If the paid one adds nothing you'd act on, that's your answer. We cover this in Are Paid Forex Indicators Worth It?
- Decide inside the refund window. Note the deadline when you buy.

- Backtest screenshots with no stated spread, period, or settings.
- Language like "never loses" or "guaranteed." No indicator can promise this.
- Testimonials you can't trace to a real, verifiable source.
- Refund terms that are vague, or that you can only find after paying.
- Pressure tactics such as countdown timers and "last chance" pricing.
Honest tradeoffs
- Simple vs. feature-rich: Dashboards that pack in many signals can look authoritative while giving you conflicting readings. Fewer, clearer outputs are often easier to trade consistently.
- Cheap vs. supported: A lower price may mean thin documentation. A higher price doesn't automatically buy better results.
- Marketplace vs. direct: Buying through a marketplace may offer a different purchase and dispute process than buying from the vendor's site. See MQL5 Market vs. vendor-site indicators for how to think about it.
- Trend vs. momentum focus: Trend tools tend to lag at reversals, while momentum tools can whipsaw in ranges. Our trend and momentum comparison goes deeper.
Make sure you're comparing the right category
Sometimes the real choice isn't Vendor A versus Vendor B. It's whether you want an indicator at all. If you want automated execution, read indicator vs. expert advisor. If you'd rather receive ready-made trade ideas, see indicator vs. signal service. Each comes with different costs, risks, and levels of control.
Where to go next
